Ayushhomam is a traditional Hindu ritual performed to pray for a long and healthy life. In this ceremony, a fire is lit, and offerings are made while priests chant specific prayers.
The ritual is often done on a child’s birthday or after recovery from an illness, seeking blessings for good health, protection, and overall well-being. It’s a way for families to express their wishes for a prosperous and healthy life for the person being honored.
Phases of AyushHomam
GANAPATHI STHAPANA: Start the ceremony by invoking Lord Ganesha, who is known for removing obstacles, and seek his blessings for everything to go smoothly.
SANKALPA & AARTI: Make a sacred vow, or Sankalpa, stating your intention to perform the Ayush Homam and ask for divine blessings. End this part with an aarti, a ritual of offering light to the deities.
AYUSH POOJA: Perform the Ayush Pooja according to the birth star (nakshatra) of the person for whom the ceremony is being held. Recite the Ayush Shuktha, a sacred hymn for long life and well-being.
HAVAN OR HOMAM: Light the sacrificial fire and make offerings of ghee, herbs, and sacred grains while chanting the Homam mantras. Pray for blessings from Ayur Devata, the deity of life, and other divine beings.
CONCLUSION: End the ceremony by making a final offering, called poornahuti, and express thanks to the divine for their blessings. Conclude with another aarti.
